Visit Dublin Docklands Christmas Markets

With Christmas just around the corner it is time to get into the festive spirit and what better way to do that than a trip to the Dublin Docklands Christmas Markets. Held in Dublin City from the 10th until the 23rd of December, it is the perfect place to get you in the mood for Christmas. This is the fifth year that the market, which is known as the 12 days of Christmas market, has taken place. Visitors will be delighted with the excellent choice of food and gift stalls that are offering a wide range of yummy treats and great gift ideas. Shoppers will be able to find the perfect gift from the fantastic array of crafts, jewelry, stained glass, giftware, beauty products, toys and leatherwear. To set the atmosphere bands will be playing Christmas carols, and there will be stalls selling steaming hot cocoa to keep everyone warm. For thrill seekers there is also a selection of rides that are suitable for all the family from young to old. New this year is a special preview event where a number of traders will be show casing their products and offering a range of promotions, so shoppers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to snapping up a bargain.

For the little ones, a visit to see Santa is a must. Santa and his elves will be making a visit during the weekends at the markets to meet with the children and find out what they want for Christmas. Children will also love the show piece of the whole market, a beautifully restored “Galloping Horses’ Carousel, which along with other fairground attractions offers rides for the whole family. Carol singers will be accompanying live bands, bringing a wonderful Christmas feel to the markets during this time.

In addition the markets are supporting the work of the Depaul Trust through a series of free family art workshops and music and poetry nights. The workshops will take place over the weekends and are aimed at helping children and parents alike to make paper angels and plaster of Paris figures. The Depaul Trust seeks to help individuals who are homeless or disadvantaged by providing them with safe places to live and new opportunities. Based in Dublin since 2002 the Trust aims to work with each of its service users in a holistic and innovative way to achieve the best results.

Dublin is a fantastic city to visit at any time of the year but during the Christmas period the city is a wash with festive cheer. Getting to Dublin is easy, as the city has its own international airport as well as good road links. For visitors travelling from afar, inexpensive internal and international flights are often offered by the main airlines and there is a great choice of car rental options when you arrive in Dublin to help you get around. The 12 days of Christmas markets are a highlight that should not be missed for all those who enjoy a piece of the Christmas spirit.
