Dublin Music Scene
Dublin has always been a hub for diversity in music. Being a vibrant port through the centuries, many styles have evolved and developed here. Now the situation is very similar - local bands are influenced by American rock, British pop and Africal soul to name but a few motivators.
Local Bands
Aside from such world-famous bands as U2 and Thin Lizzy, a number of young bands are springing up now in the city. New COlour Soul for example offers a refreshing rock experience and is just starting to take off in Europe. The Frames are the most internationally recognisable Dublin band of the moment.
Busking
Some call it an art form, some a nuisance. Either way, it's as popular as ever in Dublin today. Grafton Street, one of Dublin's main pedestrianised shopping streets, offers the best talent. In the morning you will see plenty 'Oirish' traditional singers and musicians, playing all the old Dublin favourites. Later in the evening it becomes popular with independent singer/songwriters and beginning rock music bands. O' Connell street also has plenty talent to entertain you.
Pubs
Temple Bar is Dublin's best spot for all kinds of music. The various smaller pubs play traditional Irish music most nights, the most lively times being of course Friday and Saturday. Fitzsimons in Temple Bar has three floors of entertainment, with live music downstairs. For rock fans, Eamonn Dorans has shows 7 nights a week, usually for only a 5 euro cover charge - it's also known as a favourite venue for surprise gigs of the Fun Lovin' Criminals!
Music Shops
Celtic Note on Nasseau street is generally the most reliable place in the city to find traditional Irish and ceili music. Temple Bar has several shops selling new vinyls and dance music. Pop/rock fans will find all they need on Grafton Street.
